I found the Rosetta Stone course effective to help me learn the language I needed: Spanish. I would never had have success without it. However be informed, that it is not self-sufficient. You need grammar, a dictionary, a good understanding of language structures and more material. I took a lot of text and audio from the internet. I also used other audio/textbook courses. Even some pre-school children books in the language have been helpful.
