Emerson College to Open West Coast Campus in Los Angeles

Many colleges across the country are literally becoming just that – colleges across the country. A number of major universities have begun to institute plans for satellite campuses to offer specified programs to serve students in other areas.
Emerson College in LA
The latest college to harp on this trend is Boston’s Emerson College, an institution of about 3,500 students that focuses exclusively on communications and liberal arts. Emerson, located in the center of Boston’s theater district, is planning to open a satellite campus in another hub of culture and entertainment: Los Angeles, Calif.
This is welcome news for students drawn to Emerson’s previous Los Angeles study option. For the last 25 years, Emerson has hosted its Los Angeles program in rented space in an office building, while students were housed in apartment buildings several miles away.
About the Emerson College Los Angeles Center
Emerson College Los Angeles Center (ECLA) will be a 10-story building on Hollywood’s Sunset Boulevard that will provide housing, classrooms, and training facilities for 200 students. The facility will be available to Emerson juniors, seniors and graduate students participating in the school’s Los Angeles program; where students can elect to spend one semester taking Emerson courses in California while also completing an internship in entertainment or media.
Groundbreaking of the new facility was last Thursday and was hosted by Emerson alum, Henry Winkler. Winkler said, “ This will become the hub of the greatness of Emerson in Hollywood.”
Other Colleges With Satellite Campuses
Emerson joins a slew of schools that offer satellite campuses, including Penn State, University of Connecticut, New York University and Texas A&M, among others. Syracuse University plans on building a similar satellite campus in Sherman Oaks, Calif.
