What are StudentAdvisor Groups?

 

 

StudentAdvisor Groups are where students, parents, and education experts come together to get help, share advice, and discuss topics on all issues related to college. Once you are a registered member of StudentAdvisor and Groups,  you can connect and communicate with peers, advisors and experts. After registering on StudentAdvisor and filling out your profile, you can join any available Group, suggest a new Group, or you may be automatically invited into a suggested Group based on your experience and interests.

 

To access Groups simply click the “Groups” tab in the main StudentAdvisor menu bar or bookmark www.StudentAdvisor.com/groups.

How do I join a StudentAdvisor Group?


 

To join a Group, you must be logged into your StudentAdvisor account and click the “Join Group” button under the Group description. If you haven’t already registered a StudentAdvisor account you can click here to join for free. [http://www.studentadvisor.com/#]

How do I find a StudentAdvisor Group?

 

On the StudentAdvisor Groups page there will be a search box toward the upper right corner that says “Search Groups”. Search for Group topics or the name of a specific Group to find discussions and people that relate to your interests.

How do I leave a StudentAdvisor Group?

 

To leave a Group, you must first be logged into your StudentAdvisor account. After you log in, click the “Groups” tab in your Profile. The first page you see should list “Groups You’ve Joined” in the main window. Simply click the “Leave Group” link to leave a specific Group.

How do I suggest a Group for StudentAdvisor?

 

On the Groups page next to the search field there will be a text link that says “Suggest a Group”. Click this link to write an email to the StudentAdvisor staff with your Group suggestion.

How do I post a discussion in a StudentAdvisor Group?

 

In order to post a discussion to a StudentAdvisor Group you must first join the Group. After you join the Group you wish to post in, click on the Group Name

under the “Groups You’ve Joined” tab. Click on the ‘Create Discussion’ button and a dialog box will appear. Be sure to include a Discussion Title and Discussion Description and click ‘Start a Discussion’. Your post will be immediately available for others to read and comment.

How do I post a Comment in a Discussion in a StudentAdvisor Group?

 

In order to post a comment on a Discussion in a StudentAdvisor Group, you must first join the Group that includes the Discussion. After you join the Group, click on the Discussion title and then click on the ‘Add Comment’ button to post your comments. In order to see ‘all comments’ for that Discussion, click the ‘Read More’ button next to the Discussion details.

How does ‘Share’ work within Groups?

 

‘Share’ allows you to email, send, bookmark, or share a Group, Discussion or Comment with others. A quick click on the Share link lets you also send it out to most social networking sites and RSS readers.

Can you post anything without signing up?

 

 Anyone can read and review content on StudentAdvisor.com. But in order to contribute to our Groups, Conversations or Reviews, you must be a registered member and logged in to post. You are however, able to ‘rate’ or ‘like’ a Group or Discussion by clicking on our ‘helpful’ or ‘not my experience’ buttons without logging in. You can also ‘Like’ a Group or Discussion to Facebook without logging in as well.

How do I delete a discussion in a group?

 

Currently, there is no way for a member to delete a discussion. If you posted a discussion by mistake, or need edits made to the discussion, please contact customercare@studentadvisor and provide details and links so that we may assist you.

How do I view the groups that I have already joined?

 

You must be logged into your StudentAdvisor account to view the groups that you have already joined. After logging in, click on the “Groups” tab in the top navigation bar. You will see an additional tab called, “Groups You’ve Joined.” Click here and you will see a listing of all the Groups you have joined. Another way to view your Groups is to click on “View My Profile” link in the left hand side of the page. A listing of all your joined Groups will also display on your profile page.

Where can I search for specific groups?

 

To search for specific groups you must first click on “Groups” in the top navigation bar. Click on the ‘All Groups’ tab and you will get a listing of all active groups. You can also search for a Group by entering a search term in Group Search Box. A current listing will be provided based on a keyword in the title or tags of a particular Group. If you can’t find a Group you are looking for, please click the “Suggest a Group” link and the administrators will review your request.

What do “tags” mean in the groups?

 

Tags are keywords relating to the group that help other members of StudentAdvisor find the group easier.
