What do U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke, Russell Simmons,United Nations Ambassador Andrew Young and NBA Superstar and Businessman Dikembe Mutombo have in common? They are all featured speakers at this year’s Operation HOPE Global Financial Dignity Summit.
Operation Hope is the nation’s leading nonprofit social investment banking and financial literacy empowerment organization with a mission to eradicate poverty. Operation Hope focuses on 'silver rights,' or making free enterprise and capitalism work for all. The organization emphasizes financial literacy as the tool, financial dignity as the goal and financial inclusion as the way.
Operation HOPE’s efforts span a broad array of programs, services, and movements at local, national, and worldwide levels. This week, they are hosting the HOPE Global Financial Dignity Summit 2012.
The theme of The Global Financial Dignity Summit is Community, Character and (Responsible) Capitalism. The event features U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, who plans to speak to the process of effectively “turning the page,” towards viable solutions to our economic problems.
The Global Financial Dignity Summit hopes to frame the issues of financial dignity and financial literacy, not as soft and ancillary economic tools, but as essential core ingredients to long-term economic recovery and stability.
The Summit takes place in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 14th with a HOPE Opportunity Community Bus Tour, HOPE Financial Dignity Center Ebenezer grand opening and Global Dignity Forum on Character and the day will conclude with a reception at the Atlanta Airport Marriot Gateway and concluding with a Summit on (Responsible) Capitalism at the Georgia International Convention Center on November 15.
The Global Financial Dignity Summit Plenary sessions and financial inclusion working group sessions will touch on powerful themes that speak to the future of “making free enterprise work for all.” These themes include:
• How free enterprise and responsible capitalism can be used as a powerful tool to empower the working class
• Proposals to formalize financial literacy and financial dignity coursework as a requirement in K-12 schools as a new ‘civil rights’ issue for this generation
• Considering the vastly untapped power of small business creation and entrepreneurship in growing jobs
