StudentAdvisor’s Top 100 Social Media Colleges SELECTED AS A 2011 MITX INTERACTIVE AWARDS FINALIST

Top 100 Social Media Colleges Entry Recognized for Outstanding Achievement


BOSTON, MA (November 2, 2011) – today announced that its Top 100 Social Media Colleges entry has been selected as a finalist in the Content Integration category for the 16th Annual MITX Interactive Awards. Held annually by the Massachusetts Innovation & Technology Exchange, the MITX Awards recognize excellence in the creation of web innovations designed, produced or developed in New England.

Begun in 1996, the MITX Awards has grown to become the largest and most prestigious awards competition in the country for technology innovations, and celebrates the best creative and technological accomplishments emerging from New England.

Before identifying the Top 100 Social Media Colleges, StudentAdvisor began with a comprehensive list of more than 6,000 post-secondary degree-granting institutions in the U.S., all of which had information listed on the site.

To be eligible for the rankings, each college had to have at least one Facebook fan page and one Twitter account, at least 500 Facebook fans, and  verifiable total enrollment information.


The inaugural list was determined based on total Facebook fan counts, total number and effectiveness of Twitter followers, among other factors. Throughout the compilation process, the StudentAdvisor team also regularly remeasures the data across the institutions’ social media pages.
