StudentAdvisor’s Top 100 Social Media Colleges SELECTED AS A 2011 MITX INTERACTIVE AWARDS FINALIST
Top 100 Social Media Colleges Entry Recognized for Outstanding Achievement
BOSTON, MA (November 2, 2011) – StudentAdvisor.com today announced that its Top 100 Social Media Colleges entry has been selected as a finalist in the Content Integration category for the 16th Annual MITX Interactive Awards. Held annually by the Massachusetts Innovation & Technology Exchange, the MITX Awards recognize excellence in the creation of web innovations designed, produced or developed in New England.
Begun in 1996, the MITX Awards has grown to become the largest and most prestigious awards competition in the country for technology innovations, and celebrates the best creative and technological accomplishments emerging from New England.
“The MITX Interactive Awards draw in digital and creative work of an astoundingly high caliber. Each year the applications grow increasingly impressive, and 2011 brought some of the best work we’ve ever seen,” said Debi Kleiman, president of MITX. “This year’s finalists represent true thought-leaders, experts, and innovators; they are the best and brightest our community has to offer, and their work bridges the space between creative ideas and technology. MITX is proud to serve as the foundation for this region’s vibrant digital community.”
Before identifying the Top 100 Social Media Colleges, StudentAdvisor began with a comprehensive list of more than 6,000 post-secondary degree-granting institutions in the U.S., all of which had information listed on the StudentAdvisor.com site.
“We're thrilled to be recognized by MITX for our work alongside Hubspot to compile the most comprehensive and transparent rankings of social media expertise at colleges and universities,” said Brian Carr, General Manager and Publisher of StudentAdvisor.com.
To be eligible for the rankings, each college had to have at least one Facebook fan page and one Twitter account, at least 500 Facebook fans, and verifiable total enrollment information.
The inaugural list was determined based on total Facebook fan counts, total number and effectiveness of Twitter followers, among other factors. Throughout the compilation process, the StudentAdvisor team also regularly remeasures the data across the institutions’ social media pages.
HupSpot, which hosts the StudentAdvisor.com blog, was instrumental throughout the process. The company provided the StudentAdvisor.com team with informative analytics, most notably from TwitterGrader.com.
“Colleges are at the cutting edge of social media expertise because their lifeblood is connecting to the up and coming digital generation. We can all learn what's working and what's in social media by following their lead,” he said.
StudentAdvisor.com will be recognized with the other finalists in the category of Content Integration at a ceremony traditionally attended by over 1,000 of the region’s top interactive marketing and technology professionals. Winners will be announced at the ceremony, held at the Sheraton Boston on December 5th. Tickets can be purchased at www.mitxawards.org/interactive.
