I found decent work without a college degree. I'd gone to school for a few years but dropped out and worked as a writer. It wasn't long before I realized that I had reached my professional limitations without a degree. I went back and I in no way regret it. I've since attained triple the salary I was making back around 1999, and my student loan payments, thanks to grants and scholarships, are fairly reasonable.

That depends on what you want to do. If you prefer careers that do not require a degree, then it may not be as important. Just keep in mind though that getting your degree simply opens doors to other opportunities for you. You have to be the one to walk through those doors. Without a degree, those doors will remain closed.

This may just be my opinion, but I feel a college degree is very important these days. In the economy that our country has, you need every advantage possible in order to land a good job. A college degree gives you the background that is needed to land the job of your dreams. I have even heard people say that a bachelors degree is needed to be able land a decent job or move up in a company. Yes it may cost a lot of money, but a degree will pay off in the long run.

A lot of people seem to think that everyone needs a college degree today. I think it depends on what you are interested in doing with your life and what you are good at. If you want to become a plumber, an electrician or a carpenter or other vocational trade, then you should find a great vocational school, but if you love learning, but are not sure of what you want to do, college is a great way to find out by sampling a lot of different kinds of courses and discovering what you love the most. Then you can focus on a major and possible career. What I don't recommend is just getting a high school diploma and stopping there. You need some type of advamced training or a college degree.

In this economy jobs are hard to find. People with high college degrees are settling with low paying jobs. It may not seem like a huge college debt is worth it but having a job is. If you want to make anything above minimum wage, consider a college education. It is worth it.

It is of the utter most importance now a days most jobs require you to be trined and licensed on some area of expertise and they want the real thing you know thay want your piece of paper to speak trhu you lol, and it's been shown that people with degrees earn a lot more than people that don't have them.

A college degree is very important! Now a days people don't even work in the field they got their degree for! Just the fact that you have one means a lot to future employers.

Paramount. You can't do anything without it. It used to be that you could get an apprenticeship in blue-collar fields, but now they are requiring trade school. Also, college is a time to expand yourself as a person as well as a student and potential worker. If you forego the college experience, your chance of success in the job market is greatly reduced, and your chances of advancement are significantly affected. Still in doubt? Go to community college... it's less of a time commitment and you're getting (in most cases) a quality educational experience.

A college degree is very important in careers which require one. There are still plenty of careers which don't require them. You either need connections or a degree.

A college degree is not as important as it used to be. Nowadays, you have to have a specialized degree to be competitive for a good job right out of college. In other words, undergrad itself is really not enough anymore. You need to go to Graduate school and get your Master's before many employers will even consider you. It has become so competitive that an undergrad degree itself puts you at the bottom of the recruitment list.

I think having a college degree is a disadvantage. With a BA in Business and a Masters in Education (two very applicable areas) I can't get an interview for so called professional jobs, and worse, minimum wage jobs won't even consider me. I started and ran my own business for ten years, taught public school and overseas for five years. So the experience is there too. The degrees seem to hurt me. I just feel they aren't worth it. I'm currently unemployed for a year.

Unfortunately a college degree is of necessity nowadays. The only downside of this is that there is less hands on experience and more classroom learning which doesn't always prepare you for the "real life on the job". Not to mention the impact that student loan repayment will have on the next 10-20 years of your life.

For almost all entry level "white collar" jobs, a college degree is a requirement. Not having a degree can severely limit your career options in the corporate world. However, the cost of tuition has increased dramatically in recent years. Although a college degree is extremely important these days, you should not go into a lot of debt in order to get one. For most people, fancy private schools are not worth the money. You can usually get just as good an education at your local state university - and it will cost you a lot less.

It is very important. People with college degrees are taking low level jobs. However having a job is better than not having one. If you would like to have a job paying higher than minimum wage consider a college education. College debt may not seem attractive but its something you will need to deal with.

In most fields, a college degree is absolutely necessary for success in the business world. If you want to be paid a decent salary, you need a college degree. It is very difficult to get a job without a college degree or some sort of certification in today's economy. The business world is very competitive. If you have a college degree, that will give you an edge over others that do not have a degree.

It has been heavily debated if a college degree holds any weight. Most employers want a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in order to compete for a job. A candidate with a Master's degree has a better chance at getting the job. Many college students are unable to find a job even with a 4 year degree. What college a student graduates from has more weight than the actually degree.

It is vital if you are going into a field that has a lot of opportunities available, such as teaching or a medical field. If you are going into a field that is already over-saturated with employees, you may find yourself going into another field of work just to get a paying job. Community colleges and trade schools offer a wide variety of programs and degrees as well.

It really depends on the industry. If the industry is creative I would argue against a college degree and let your work speak for you. Most industries the college degree simply proves that the student can work on something for 4 years straight. The college degree is important only for the first job.

Pretty damn important. The shift from a manufacturing economy to an information economy has made "academic" skills relatively more valuable in the marketplace than before, and employers have responded by requiring college degrees for more of their positions. This has been criticized in some circles as "credential inflationm," but the trend doesn't appear to be reversing itself. College graduates earn at least several hundred thousand dollars more than non-graduates in their lifetimes, so go to college if at all possible.

It really depends on the job/career you pursue. If you want to work construction all your life, you could start right away and build up from the building. If you want to start ahead of the people, a college degree will help a ton. Other careers require a degree, such as teaching. Even if you do not have an education degree, you can go the alternate route to become a teacher as long as you have a college degree in something.

Getting a college degree is still important. It certainly is not the only way to good paying job but it is still the best way to go if you don't want to do an on the job training or trade program. Plus a lot of employers still require degrees if you are going to progress to better jobs with the company. The key is to find a way to get your college degree in a more economically sound way so that you do not have to deal with paying for college loans over the first years of employment.

dependant on the field your looking to work in a college degree is almost a necessity. With the unemployment rate in the U.S. there is a huge influx of people looking for employment. So if you follow supply and demand its easy to see with a huge supply of workers the demand of the employer will go up. So if you were an employer with 20 people in front of you applying and one of them has a degree in that field you would be more likely to favor that person

It's very important. At this time it is very hard even for someone with a college degree to find a job. Imagine if you don't have a college degree, this makes finding a job even harder. At the minimum people should be getting Associate degrees because it helps you get a job as well as earn a little extra money. When the economy is as low as it currently is the job market becomes competitive and having a strong educational background can give you a leg up on the competition.

Whether you "need" a degree really depends on what you want to do in life. I work in computer programming, and half the programmers I work with don't have a degree. They are great programmers, sometimes better than I am. But they often get paid less or have a harder time getting a job. A degree shows that you can accomplish big things.

A college degree has become increasingly important over time, because the number of graduates has increased. Competition for jobs has become stiffer, and those without certain qualifications can be overlooked. It is not impossible to succeed without a degree, and many people do, but it does make the road to success a little easier.

A college degree is essential in today's competitive job market. Those with degrees have a leg up when applying for jobs and promotions, as well as the impression it gives about commitment in completing a goal. Where you get the degree and how much you spend is a whole other topic!

It is pretty much THE MOST important thing for getting a job. You cannot find a competitive job without at least a BA or BS nowadays. Soon I'm sure it will be a master's degree. In my opinion though, does it actually help you complete the job? No, not at all.
