Check out all of the highest ranking graduate schools. US News ranks them by region so you can choose which location you want. There aren't specific schools that are famous for sociology but if you choose a school that's pretty well known for their humanities program, I am sure that's quite an accomplishment!

I would recommend talking to people in your chosen field and see what they recommend. What employers think is the best school is the school you want to go to. The perception of greatness is much more important than actual greatness.

The IUP Sociology Master's Program, with its applied emphasis, helps students to better identify, analyze and respond to individual, organization, and social action, in bringing about both individual and social change. More specifically, the sociology program offers instructions in important topics like alcohol and drug abuse, family violence, women's issues, unemployment, aging, disability, and health care. The Master's degree prepares students for employment in human services, government agencies, corporations, higher education, and social research positions. Recent graduates are working as family counselors, alcohol treatment supervisors, domestic violence program staff, medical social workers, mental health professionals, social policy researchers, and university professors.

There are actually a few but we'll discuss two. Boston University offers an active program at both a master's and doctrine level. This will help to prepare you for a career in research, teaching, or even applied sociology, which is a great program. Baylor University is also a good choice for getting your Master's in Sociology. They specialize in the sociology of religion, which is also a great program of study.

UC Berkeley has the highest ranked Master's program for sociology. University of Wisconsin--Madison and Princeton are numbers two and three. (This is according to 2009 stats). If these top schools are out of your reach possibly NYU or University of Texas at Austin (numbers 13 and 14) would be better suited for you. Remember not to get intimidated by the price of private schools or a Master's degree in general. There is a lot of funding available and you almost always have the option of becoming a teaching assistant to earn a salary or get some of your tuition fees waived.
