Ummmm, We seriously have a friggin' CASTLE on campus. We have a building designed by some dude (Antoine Predock) who ended up winning some ridiculous award like "Greatest Architect in the Whole Western Hemisphere" or something like that. Aside from the buildings, the people. 3 NFL coaches and several players, 2 Olympic Medalists (bronze in bobsled, but who is complaining?), Actors and Actresses, UFC Champions, Politicians, and ME. But, for real, the people that teach at Eastern Illinois University are on the whole some of the most amazing people in the world. They are so talented and giving, intelligent and understanding. Our athletics programs are out of this world. We have the first women's rugby NCAA sanctioned team, who typically rout opposing teams by 100 points or more. Our players are approachable, you can actually talk to them like human beings and not just idiots who can throw the pill or dunk the ball. Our fight song REALLY gets me pumped for some Panther Athletics. The University President actually knows students' names!
1. Location: 3 hours from Chicago, 2 hours from St. Louis, and 2 hours from Indy; also, being stuck in the corn and soy fields of central Illinois is not the most exciting place in the world. 2. All the locals are University of Illinois fans.
Yes, Because I was comfortable on campus the moment I stepped on it. Everyone was incredibly helpful and friendly, often going well out of their way to guide me where I needed to be. Coming straight from the Army to college was an incredibly challenging experience, especially since I had not been on the campus for 7 years, and even then I was not paying attention to what was where. And most importantly, because I AM EIU!
