The community! If you're looking for a school that will provide opportunities to really network, interact, and learn with other passionate, motivated, and exceptionally talented individuals, Spelman is a great place to start. The passion for greatness is the reason why this women's college never feels like the proverbial "catty all-girls school" environment.
This isn't the "worst" thing about Spelman; I think "the aspect that needs the most improvement" would be a more appropriate way to address this issue- campus housing. The reality is that HBCUs need more funding, and at Spelman, the quality of on-campus living is sacrificed because of the lack of resources. My personal experience hasn't been absolutely unbearable, but there have been some goings-on that are valid reasons for why many upper classmen live off-campus.
Yes, Not everyone can be a Spelmanite, not everyone can live up to the standard of the Spelman Woman. I don't say this with hubris, I say this with pride because Spelman is helping me to become the type of woman that uses my excellence to do more than just elevate myself. Being a Spelmanite is about recognizing my own greatness in order to help the world be a greater place than it was yesterday, and a better place than it is today.
