The best thing about Warren Wilson is waking up to the sunrise over the mountains and the farm, smoking your morning cigarette sitting between people playing banjo and people talking about the evils of Monsanto, getting a major sunburn in your morning class, eating tofu burritos at the vegetarian cafeteria, skipping your afternoon class to visit the baby pigs, climbing trees with your roommate to drink locally brewed beer and discuss your papers, meeting up with friends and skinny-dipping in the river, and going to bed thinking about how great it is to live in such an awesome place. (Oh, and there's doing a ton of research, working, and volunteering in that schedule too) Warren Wilson isn't for everyone, but you can make it what you want, as long as you have creativity, patience, and a big idea on how to change the world.
Sometimes it is very unorganized, which might be because most of the work is done by students, who are often preoccupied. Also, it is easy to get stuck in the "Warren Wilson bubble", and have no connection to the outside world for semesters at a time. Like any school, its not perfect, and depending on what area you work and study in, you will find something you absolutely can't stand.
Yes, I've been to other colleges, and WWC is definitely the best for me. The connections you make at WWC will stay with you for a long time, and you can feel that you make a difference in the community. It's a lot of work- work, school and service can take up a lot of time depending on how much you put into it, but it's worth it. Other colleges might have a wider range of classes, but the professors at WWC care about their topics, care about students, and aren't afraid to think out of the box in order to make their teaching more effective.
