College History

ASA-The College for Excellence is a for-profit higher education institution founded in 1985. Previously known as "Advanced Software Analysis, the first class consisted of only 12 students. The school originally focused specifically on mainframe computer programming because New York was suffering from a shortage of qualified computer programmers. Today, the college has two campuses in Brooklyn and Manhattan. ASA offers 2-year degrees and certificates in business administration, health disciplines, criminal justice and computer technology. ASA now has more than 5,000 students and 16 programs of study.

ASA is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs, and the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. ASA is approved by the New York State Education Department.

There are thirty accredited courses offered by ASA in Distance Learning. These courses allow you to earn your degree in a place and time that is convenient for you. In order to take Distance Learning courses, you must have a GPA of 2.5 or above and have a computer that is not more than three years old. Students can get in touch with their professors by e-mail and have 24/7 aid with technical problems. Financial Aid, The Learning Center, and advisement are available to students. The only time you are required to be on the campus is for Final Exams.
