Strayer University, accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, was founded in 1892 by Dr. S. Irving Strayer. The first university was originally located in Baltimore, MD. Since then, Strayer University has over 90 campuses, located in 23 states in the United States, including Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Ohio, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, and 16 other states. Strayer University offers an assortment of undergraduate degree programs and certificates, along with an online Executive MBA program. Traditional high-school students, along with transfer students and working adults – non-traditional degree seeking – students are encouraged to apply to Strayer.
Although the first Strayer University was opened in Baltimore, MD, the attraction of more students and applicants prompted university officials to open another branch in Washington, DC in 1904. To date, the Washington, DC campus is known as the “flagship,” or main campus for Strayer University. Each year, Strayer’s enrollment increases. In 1983, enrollment increased by 2,000, and up 9,000 by 1997. As of today, Strayer University has 50,000 students enrolled in one of its campuses or online degree programs. Of those 50,000, 30,000 attend school online and the majority of the students enrolled at Strayer University work full-time while attending college.
