College History

A leader in post-secondary creative arts education, The Art Institute of Houston is one of 50 locations that are found throughout North America. It is located in the heart of Houston, Texas and is one of five of these educational institutions in the state. Founded in 1965 as the Houston School of Commercial Art, it became part of the Art Institute system in 1978. This school focuses on training students with hands-on education in a real-world setting to prepare students for a career upon graduation.

Areas of study include design, media arts, fashion, and culinary arts. This institution is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and School. Culinary programs are accredited by The Accrediting Commission of the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation.

For students who want to study and continue day-to-day operations, online courses are available in conjunction with on campus classes. Online courses allow students to study with students from any of the Art Institute locations and complete their courses in a five and a half week period that contains the same information as traditional classroom settings. Textbooks are available in digital format and tutoring is offered to students in a virtual format. Students are able to log on at a time convenient to their own schedule. The Art Institute of Houston online classes are virtual yet interactive as students are able to partake in discussions and communicate with other classmates and professors. Student resources such as aids, informational sources, and group discussions are available.
