Petrena Lowthian founded The Art Institutes International Minnesota in 1964. The school's original name was Lowthian College. The college was subsequently acquired by The Art Institutes in 1997. Its president is Dr. Jeffrey S. Allen, and the school's dean is Dr. Susan Tarnowski. It is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. There are two campuses located in downtown Minneapolis. The Art Institutes has more than 40 locations across North America. The school's colors are black and red. Its values are integrity, innovation and creativity, diversity, quality, life-long learning, and social and civic responsibility.
The Art Institutes International Minnesota is intended for students interested in studying art, animation, interior design, multimedia or the culinary arts. Programs are offered in design, media, applied management and the culinary arts. Certificates and associate’s and bachelor’s degrees are awarded by the school.
