Academics, professors, caliber of students, atmosphere, and reputation. It is a place that will ask you which opportunity you would like to pursue and, as the proverbial southern gent would, opens...
Pricey for out-of-state students - with continued pressure to lower in-state tuition and increase the number of in-state students.
The campus is beautiful, and student life is great.
the engineering school (which I attended) was secluded from the rest of the university, and students had very few shared classes with non-engineering students
Great value for the money, and professors that have made names for themselves in their field. I also feel that the surrounding community is an ideal one for students at the undergrad level.
The worst drawback was the student body atmosphere. These people didn't seem to have much of a social life, and yet they aren't especially well known for academics either.
Another awesome thing is The Lawn
Every student at this school needs A laptop
Another awesome thing is The thing that I think is awesome about UVA is the lingo specific to students. The campus is referred to as the Grounds, the students are not freshman or sophomores but first or second years (because Thomas Jefferson, the founder of UVA, believed that your education never stopped) and the Corner is a street block of bars and restaurants where students frequently visit. In addition to the UVA lingo are the traditions that exist here: Secret Society members are present among student classes, streaking the Lawn is considered normal, and steam tunneling underneath the streets is a regular occurrence. While our football team may not be the best in the country, I like to think that our tailgates are the best!
Every student at this school needs Drive. Students here are brilliant, but their passion is to change the world with that knowledge.
I wish I knew How serious they took the honour code.
